Drawing Competition

Time: All day
Play chess against a Chess Master

Time/Location: All day at chess tent on Howard Ave
Allan Savage, International Chess Master, a former Maryland State Chess Champion, and Chess books author, will simultaneously play six to eight games of chess at once! Prizes will be awarded to anyone who wins or draws. Read about Allan Savage in this Gazette article.

Storytelling
Time: 1:30 - 2:30 | Location: across from Antique Village on Howard Ave
The Twinbrook Tellers are from Storytellers' Club which meets monthly during the school year at Twinbrook Library in Rockville, MD. At Storytellers' Club, children ages 5-14 are invited to tell stories (only if they want to), listen to stories and play storytelling games. Children who are comfortable telling tales for a more public audience are invited to join the Twinbrook Tellers in performances at area libraries, story swaps, and festivals. Over the past six years they have performed at the Glen Echo Folk Festival, Montgomery County Harvest Festival, Takoma Park MiniFest, and, of course, The Kensington Day of the Book Festival.

Scavenger Hunt for Kids of All Ages
Time/Location: All day on Howard Ave; go to information tent for clues
Find the author with the red hat! Collect a bookmark from the store with the blue door! Get the secret word from Sherlock Holmes! Follow a list of clues to the final and win a prize!


Make a Little Book and Other Art Activities

Leah Taylor Jefferson and Her Miniature Horse
Time: 12:00 - 12:45 and 3:00 - 3:45 | Location: At Leah's space across from Jill's Antiques on Howard Ave
Leah will read a chapter from her book The Adventures of Oreo and Algonquin - The White House Tour. This wonderful book tells the story of how important the horse is to American History with the help of Oreo the History Horse. After the reading everyone will have a chance to meet the real Oreo a living breathing miniature horse who even has a real rainbow tail just like the character in the book.
Learn how to create a Super Hero
Time: 11:30 - 12:00 | Location: K. Micheal Crawford's space across from Antique Village
Children's Book Writer and Illustrator, K .Michael Crawford will demonstrate how to create your own Super Hero. Come join the fun and learn how to draw step-by-step your very own Super Hero. Imagination required!

Watercolor Workshop
Time: All day
Local artist and art teacher Firouzeh Sadeghi invites you to discover the fun of doing your own watercolor painting. Learn basic tricks and techniques with an eye to achieving exciting effects. Adults, children, beginners, advanced, and everyone in between is invited! Have a seat, paint along, or just watch and ask questions. Supplies are provided and everything is free!
Explore Nature with Audubon Naturalist Society
Time: All day
Audubon Naturalist Society will have items for children of all ages to touch and explore – animal tracks, shells, skulls, leaves, a fox pelt, and more. Come learn about nature in your backyard, Maryland, and beyond!
