I am drawn to trains, nature, old buildings and people so I just carry cameras with me everywhere I go. For trains I shoot digital; for everything else I prefer medium format and 35mm SLR and rangefinder film cameras. I started putting together the tools and equipment in 2007 to develop a life-long passion into a business. With a successful show under my belt and my photographs in several stores, 2008 was looking to be a good year, until I suffered a rear cerebral stroke. Film photography turned out to be a major part of my recovery as the balance and coordination needed to take an in-focus shot while walking was great training for my type of stroke. Long live film!

Once upon a time...
...there was a magical place with lots of whimsical characters and some strange folks, but not to worry it's just K. Michael Crawford's art and children's books. Michael has created first-of-its-kind drawing books, where a reader has to answer clues to know what to draw on the page.

Valerie Brown (Chevy Chase, MD)

Montgomery Art Association
www.montgomeryart.org | Facebook
Montgomery Art Association was established in 1954, and the membership fees are kept low to encourage emerging artists to join and be a part of a supportive creative community. The group has monthly get-togethers, workshops and presentations. The MAA Gallery in Westfield Wheaton Mall has been open since December 2010, and has new shows each month. MAA also sponsors the Kensington Labor Day Weekend Art Show among others.

Moira Ratchford (Wheaton, MD)
www.moiraratchford.com
Moira Ratchford creates luminous paintings in a variety of media, nearly all inspired by the beauty of nature. Vibrant color and expressive dynamics define her style: color and light are transformed by her brush into symbols of joy and life. Moira hopes her paintings will speed healing and lift the spirits of people in medical facilities, windowless cubicles, or urban spaces, where the experience of natural beauty is especially needed. Your place of work doesn't need to be depressing! Bring some color into your life with a few gorgeous prints! Rotate them with the seasons to change things up and remind yourself of the beauty just outside your door. Moira's inspirations include Georgia O'Keefe, Mikhail Vrubel, Marc Chagall, John Singer Sargent, Lili Maglione, and Elizabeth DaCosta Ahern.

Desiree Sterbini (Silver Spring, MD)
www.dezsterbini.com | Facebook
Artist and Illustrator for Ellen S. Cromwell's children's book "Splash Puddle Splash". Desiree is a Silver Spring artist who works in oil pastels and colored pencils to create award winning art, often with the theme of the innocence of childhood.

Washington Metropolitan Artists' Society
Attend their Watercolor Workshop at the festival! For adults and kids.
www.wmartists.com
Greater Washington area friends and partners in art who help each other to improve our skills in painting and related disciplines and try to enrich the visual arts in the region. There is an emphasis on watercolor, but we do other media as well. Serious recruits in all such fields are always welcome. Classes and workshops are also offered.

Tamara Struzhkin Zeioin
I am a felting artist (scarfs, boots, hats, bracelets, belts). Felt is the first textile known in the history of mankind - dating from 8000 B.C. Felt is a non-woven fabric. People learned to make felt before they could spin weave or knot. Felt for me is a way of molding ancient history into modern art.
